REAL-WORLD ADULT MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING

We provide adults with a focused pathway into practical martial arts built around real-life survival rather than sport-based routines. At The Black Belt Foundation in Chorley, training combines traditional Ju-Jitsu, Krav Maga, and Kapap to foster confidence, physical conditioning, and calm decision-making under pressure. Sessions suit beginners and experienced practitioners alike, ensuring skills develop in a progressive manner. Let us help adults gain practical self-defence knowledge that transfers into daily life, work environments, and personal safety situations. Our experienced instructors guide every session with structured coaching and real-world insight. At the same time, Children’s Martial Arts programmes run alongside adult training to support families seeking consistent, values-led martial arts education for all ages.

CLOSE QUARTERS SURVIVAL SYSTEM IN PRACTICE

We centre adult training around the CQS framework, a modern system designed for instinctive and effective responses. Krav Maga delivers rapid-response contact skills, Kapap strengthens pre-contact awareness and tactical positioning, and Ju-Jitsu supports control and ground safety. At The Black Belt Foundation, this combination ensures preparedness for stand-up encounters, close-range threats, and ground-based situations. Training focuses on survival outcomes, clear thinking, and safe disengagement rather than competitive scoring.

CLOSE QUARTER COMBATIVE (CQB)–FOCUSED TRAINING FRAMEWORK

We follow a Close Quarter Combative (CQB)–based syllabus aligned with the principles of the International Kapap Federation and International Kapap Association, informed through the lineage of Moshe Galisko. This framework is grounded in practical, close‑range defensive systems originally developed for high‑pressure environments and carefully adapted for effective civilian use.

At The Black Belt Foundation, instruction is shaped by professional experience in the Parachute Regiment, prison service, and security management, ensuring realistic, pressure‑tested training delivery. Our structured CQB approach is designed to be effective regardless of size, strength, or prior martial arts experience.

EXPERIENCED LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT

We operate under the guidance of David Whiteside, a 6th Dan in Traditional Ju-Jitsu and a 4th Dan in Israeli-recognised Kapap/Krav Maga with over 40 years of experience. All instruction is delivered in a controlled, inclusive setting that prioritises safety, respect, and progression. At The Black Belt Foundation, adult students benefit from disciplined coaching, operational insight, and a community-focused academy that supports long-term personal development on and off the mat.

IAI-JUTSU AT TBBF

The art of drawing the sword — modern coaching, traditional discipline

Iai-Jutsu (居合術) is the Japanese martial art of drawing the sword with precision, control, and intent. At TBBF, we teach it through a structured, progressive framework that develops focus, posture, and safe, repeatable skill—ideal for beginners and returning students alike.

WHAT YOU’LL GAIN

Training Iai-Jutsu at TBBF develops much more than physical skill. Students build focus and composure, learning to stay calm under pressure while improving posture, balance, and coordination. The art also sharpens timing, control, and precision, fostering discipline and confidence that carry over into everyday life. All of this is achieved in a respectful and welcoming environment, making it ideal for beginners seeking structured, mindful training.

OUR TRAINING APPROACH

Our syllabus covers the key foundations of sword work, taught safely and progressively:

  • Sword handling & etiquette

  • Draw and return mechanics (Nukitsuke / Noto)

  • Footwork, posture & alignment

  • Cutting lines & edge awareness

  • Kata-based forms training

  • Control, distancing & decision-making

  • Training is always coached and method-led, so you develop skill without rushing.

TAMESHIGIRI: TEST CUTTING WORKSHOPS

Tameshigiri (試し斬り) is the optional practice of test cutting to validate mechanics, posture, timing, and control. Conducted safely under supervision, these workshops are offered periodically for students who have mastered the basics.

WHO CAN JOIN

Iai-Jutsu is ideal for adults who want traditional art taught in a modern, structured way, a strong sense of progress and mastery, confidence, control, and composure, and a welcoming environment that respects beginners. No prior experience is needed—just comfortable training clothes and a willingness to learn safely. We’ll advise on the safest sword options as you progress.

The Black Belt Foundation is truly a remarkable martial arts business. The instructors are highly skilled and passionate, providing personalised attention to all students. Classes are well-structured, diverse, and fun. The facility is top-notch, and safety is a priority. The emphasis on holistic growth and personal development sets them apart. They also engage in community outreach and regularly organise events. I highly recommend The Black Belt Foundation for anyone seeking excellence in martial arts or self-defence….
