REAL-WORLD CHILDREN'S SELF-DEFENCE FOUNDATIONS
We deliver children's martial arts with purpose, focusing on real-life safety rather than sport or trophies. Training blends Kapap, Krav Maga, and Jiu Jitsu into a structured self-defence system that supports confidence, resilience, and calm decision-making. At The Black Belt Foundation, programmes address modern challenges such as bullying, personal boundaries, and public safety. We ensure inclusion remains central, creating an environment where children of all abilities feel supported, respected, and empowered to move with confidence beyond the academy.

INTEGRATED DISCIPLINES WITHIN CLOSE QUARTERS SURVIVAL
We teach the Close Quarters Survival framework using three clearly defined pillars that work together seamlessly. Krav Maga builds instinctive reactions and prioritises personal safety and escape under stress. Kapap develops tactical awareness and pre-contact skills, helping children recognise danger early. Jiu-Jitsu provides control, distance management, and ground safety in situations involving grappling or falls. At The Black Belt Foundation, this integration ensures children develop practical skills applicable to real-world encounters.
STRUCTURED LEARNING THROUGH THE RAID SYSTEM
We apply the Rapid Action Initiated Defence (RAID) system to give children a clear, scientific approach to handling threatening situations. This method introduces defensive awareness and de-escalation, followed by immediate technical responses when required, and controlled actions that create safe escape opportunities. Developed by former UK Military personnel, RAID teaches clarity under pressure rather than aggression. Training builds mental resilience alongside physical capability, allowing children to respond thoughtfully, seek safety, and understand appropriate action in challenging environments. Our training pathways also extend into adult martial arts and an inclusive programme, ensuring the same structured principles support confidence, safety, and personal development for learners of all ages and abilities.
PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION WITH INCLUSIVE VALUES
We provide instruction within a safeguarded, family-focused setting guided by experienced leadership. The Chorley Academy is operated by David Whiteside, a 4th Dan in Israeli-recognised Krav Maga/Kapap, with over 40 years of experience in martial arts. Every instructor holds British Martial Arts & Boxing Association (BMABA) registration, first aid certification, and enhanced DBS screening. At The Black Belt Foundation, SEN-adapted coaching, ethical instruction, and a structured grading pathway help children grow with discipline, respect, and measurable confidence on and off the mat.
This is a fantastic club. My 9-year-old little girl has gained so much confidence since starting. I wasn't sure at first if it would be the type of hobby that she would take to. From day one, she has loved it and really kissed it over the Christmas break. The instructors are lovely and make the lessons fun whilst ensuring that the standards are high. I would recommend that anyone give it a try. Regardless of age, sex or ability.
